Home Sharing
Success stories
Eileen came to HIP Housing's Home Sharing Program looking for a housemate that would keep her company in the evenings, help her around the house, and provide her with a sense of security at night. Eileen was looking for someone with a sense of humor, who enjoys good conversation and the sense of family. She found those qualities in Sue. Sue had been home sharing for over 2 years through HIP Housing, until the senior home provider she was living with passed away. Home sharing helps to keep Sue's housing costs affordable by giving her the opportunity to exchange services in lieu of paying rent. Sue and Eileen have now been together for 1 year. Eileen's family is extremely happy to have Sue living with their mother.

Eileen & Sue

Kathleen, Ana, Frank & Vincent
After going through a divorce, Kathleen was faced with raising her children on her own while at the same time trying to maintain the mortgage and housing costs of the home she owned. Home sharing provided a solution to help Kathleen meet her housing costs several years ago and again when she needed help recently. Through HIP Housing, Kathleen met Frank. Due to health issues, Frank's only income was disability and General Assistance. Frank moved in with Kathleen and helps provide her with childcare. They all now have a place to call home that they can afford.
